Data Protection Officer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO) to join our team. As the DPO, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, policies, and best practices to safeguard the privacy and security of personal data processed by the agency. You will serve as the primary point of contact for data protection matters, providing guidance, oversight, and support to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the agency's primary point of contact for data protection and privacy matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Develop, implement, and maintain data protection policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) to identify and mitigate privacy risks associated with data processing activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal teams (e.g., marketing, advertising, analytics) on data protection requirements, privacy principles, and best practices.
  • Monitor compliance with data protection policies and procedures, including data handling practices, data retention, and data subject rights.
  • Respond to data subject requests, inquiries, and complaints related to data protection and privacy, ensuring timely and appropriate resolution.
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and IT teams to address data protection issues, incidents, and breaches in accordance with incident response protocols.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory authorities, data protection authorities (DPAs), and other relevant stakeholders on data protection matters.
  • Stay updated on changes in data protection laws, regulations, and industry trends, and provide training and awareness programs to ensure ongoing compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Information Security, Data Protection, or related field.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • years of experience in data protection, privacy compliance, or related roles.
  • Deep understanding of data protection laws and regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, and other regional data protection laws.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection principles, practices, and frameworks (e.g., Privacy by Design, Data Protection Impact Assessments).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex data protection concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
